New Year's dip at Whitley Bay
Swimmers braved the chilly North Sea yesterday for the traditional New Year's Day dip. More than 50 hardy souls took the plunge into the freezing waters at Whitley Bay shortly before 11am in a tradition which dates back more than 100 years. The event is organised by the Panama Swimming Club and many of the swimmers were raising money for charity.
