Palatine Beds are realising a dream

DISABLEMENT NEEDN’T MEAN TOTAL DEPENDENCY. ALASTAIR GILMOUR FINDS INSPIRATION IN DETERMINATION

All over the huge facility, people are involved in fixing fillings to springs then onto a frame before the cover is sewn on by a large sewing machine very nimbly guided, stopped, started and turned by a skilled machinist.

A huge computer-operated sewing machine deals with the final coverings on some of the superior quality products, overseen by an expert evaluating every part of the complex process. They seem so accomplished at their jobs it is difficult to gauge their level of disability.

Elsewhere on the factory floor, three employees trade good humoured banter in sign language before laughter bursts out. Not only is it funny, it is inspiring.

The Heart of the Mattress Palatine Beds not only supplies the hospitality industry, it offer its extensive range to the general public through a factory shop at Westerhope, Newcastle. A new bed may not be a wonder cure to all life’s stresses and strains, but it certainly should help get a better night’s sleep, leaving you refreshed and ready to face the world.

Two-year research by sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski found that those with uncomfortable beds slept on average one hour less each night than those with comfortable beds.

The aim is to achieve good posture in bed. Too soft and your body will slouch, leading to back pain; too firm will cause discomfort at pressure points such as hips and shoulders. Comfort is very subjective. Some people like the sensation of sinking into a bed; others prefer to lie on the surface. Back sleepers may prefer a firmer option than people who sleep on their sides.
