North business survives with local help

A NORTH packaging company has given readers even more reasons to Think North East First.
Our campaign is asking families to put regional products at the forefront of their minds whenever they spend.
If you buy yoghurt, coleslaw, ice-cream or a host of other dairy products chances are they have been packaged by Northumberland-based Alternative Supply Company Ltd.
By supporting the business – through buying their clients’ products – you can help protect the 50-plus jobs at their 65,000sqft BRC-approved plant, in Cramlington.
The firm, now in its eighth year, specialises in environmentally-friendly plastic containers, suitable for storing food at chilled and frozen temperatures. It produces more than 350 million items a year for customers, including Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose.
They make coleslaw and salad Packs for Del Monte and Bakkavor, and pick more or less any national ice-cream producer and Alternative will produce their packaging.
At a more local level the company makes yogurt and cream pots for companies, including Northumbrian Pedigree and Lanchester Dairy, and ice-cream packaging for R&R Ice Cream, the Cool Cow range, from Lanchester Dairy, and Doddington Dairy
Ever enjoyed a pint or two at the Newcastle Falcon’s Kingston Park, or the Metro Radio Arena? All their plastic glasses are produced by the company too.
