Denise Robertson backs our Think North East First campaign

JOURNAL columnist Denise Robertson today emphatically backs our campaign to help the region through the recession.
The Journal is asking readers to Think North East England First. Just small changes to spending habits have the potential to have a huge impact on cash flow in the region.
Our campaign aims to protect jobs by supporting products.
Just opting for a pack of Rolos when we buy our children sweets can play its part in helping to secure jobs at Nestle’s Fawdon plant, Newcastle, because every packet is produced.
TV agony aunt Denise, who makes a point of prioritising North products whenever she is shopping, is urging more local families to do follow suit.
She said: “As someone who commutes to work in London, I think that says everything about my love for the region. I buy local products whenever I can. Spending our money at home seems plain old common sense to me.
“We need to support local industries and local producers and we need to be proud of ourselves.
“If you can’t afford to holiday abroad, look around, we should be proud of our history here. People live in the cities here for years and just don’t explore enough. There are so many fantastic places to explore right on our doorstep.
“I’ve been living this for a long, long time, because the North is a great place to be, it needs protecting and we all need to appreciate that.”
