Fall for The Alnwick Garden this spring

Alnwick Garden

THIS spring, the blossom of more than 300 Great White Cherry trees will appear for the first time in The Alnwick Gardens Cherry Orchard, before falling to create beautiful drifts of petals.

The Taihaku trees are planted on a peaceful slope beyond the Grand Cascade; the only place in the country to see them in such number. Theyre under planted with spring bulbs and pathways meander among them, with colourful azalea borders at the Orchards edge. The Cherry Orchard is The Alnwick Gardens newest feature, and the trees are expected to blossom at the end of this month.

The Gardens spring programme is inspired by Japan in honour of the Japanese trees, where hanami, or cherry blossom viewing, is an important tradition and real social event. People come together under the trees, with picnics, music and dancing.

The Alnwick Garden is celebrating the arrival of the Taihaku blossom and Northumberland spring with the Cherry Blossom Festival on April 25 and 26, and Saturday May 2. Make a Japanese floating lantern, a kite decorated with manga drawings, or a silk banner.

On May 2 join an enchanted parade through garden the at 2pm. Visit www.alnwickgarden.com  to find out more.
