STEVE Bruce says he has taken no decision on the future of Craig Gordon - as Celtic weigh up a cut-price move for the Scotland stopper.
Uncertainty surrounds the future of Gordon as Sunderland close in on a free transfer swoop for Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.
Despite interest from Manchester City, Wolves and Everton, Westwood has been sold on a move to the Stadium of Light by the promise of starting the season as number one, and that leaves question marks surrounding Gordon.
The former Hearts man will not be fit for the start of the season after undergoing an operation on a knee injury and Sunderland’s decision to delay contract talks leaves him vulnerable.
It emerged over the weekend that Celtic, who appear unlikely to lure Newcastle United’s Fraser Forster back to Celtic Park next season following his successful loan spell last term, are keeping tabs on his situation.
Arsenal have also watched him recently, while cash-rich Manchester City, in the market for a high-calibre back-up for Joe Hart, have Gordon on their radar.
But Bruce says he is keeping an open mind on the goalkeeper situation, with Trevor Carson also set to get a chance in the Black Cats’ pre-season campaign.
He said: “I’m going to swim with the goalkeepers until we get back and then we’ll see where we are up to with Craig,” he said. “We’re back on July 6, so we’ve got nearly seven weeks once we’ve come back to see where he is and where his rehabilitation has taken him and if he’s going to be a long term casualty.
“But I’m not going to do anything just yet. Remember we’ve also got back-up in Trevor Carson – he is a confident goalkeeper.”
