SUNDERLAND look set to land South Korean international striker Ji Dong-Won as manager Steve Bruce looks to bolster his attacking options.
Ji currently plays for K-League side Chunnam Dragons and has long been on the Black Cats’ radar. He could put pen to paper early next week in a deal mooted to be just under £1million.
The 20-year-old has scored nine goals in 32 appearances for the Dragons but has been in more prolific form for his country with six in 11 games.
That run included one in a friendly against Ghana this week in which current Sunder-land hitman Asamoah Gyan scored for the Black Stars, but the Koreans still won 2-1.
South Korea boss Cho Kwang-Rae backed the 6ft 1in marksman to be a hit in the Premier League, saying: “He is tall, but also fast and smart. I think he can play really well in Europe if he can add some more power.”
Ji’s move could prove timely if the arrival of Liverpool fringe striker David Ngog falls through, although The Journal understands the move has only been put on hold as both the player and his agent are on holiday.
The Frenchman was due to arrive on Wearside as part of the transfer of midfielder Jordan Henderson to Anfield, which was completed last night. The deal was meant to be worth more than £20million but only £16m has changed hands so far.
After putting pen to paper at Liverpool last night, Henderson said: “I’m over the moon, overjoyed to be here and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I was flattered to know Liverpool were interested in me and, once I knew, it was a massive decision for me to make but also a massive opportunity.
