DAVID Vaughan says a Bosman free transfer move to Sunderland is a “possibility” this summer.
The Wales international’s Blackpool contract expires next month, and the Black Cats are one of the clubs to have shown an interest in the player.
The deep-lying playmaker has not made any decision on his future yet, and hinted not to expect one any time soon.
But his desire to build on an impressive debut season in the Premier League will improve Sunderland’s chances of signing him.
Vaughan only named two of the clubs who have offered him a contract for next season, the other being recently-relegated Blackpool.
“I’m just talking to Blackpool and one or two other clubs,” the 28-year-old revealed. “Hopefully I will make my decision in a couple of weeks.
“Sunderland is a possibility but I am leaving everything to my agent and once I have some concrete offers, I’ll decide where I want to go.
“Obviously players want to play in the Premier League and hopefully that will be the case for me next season.”
Manager Steve Bruce has admitted he will look to exploit the situation at those clubs which suffered relegation last season, and Blackpool’s players are ripe for the picking.
Those under contract have had to take big pay cuts, making DJ Campbell – who Bruce signed while manager of Birmingham City – an attractive option.
Bruce is anxious to make the most of his transfer budget by lining up free transfers such as Vaughan, Keiren Westwood and Jay Bothroyd.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has vowed to work extra hard when he returns to the Academy of Light in July to ensure his debut Premier League season is not a flash in the pan.
