EVERGREEN Bolo Zenden will seek reassurances from Sunderland boss Steve Bruce before committing to another campaign at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats are set to open talks with Zenden in the next few weeks, but the veteran midfielder – who has shaken off the calf injury that ruled him out of the Arsenal game – wants to know if he will still be involved in the first team next year before signing a contract extension.
He has played 22 times this season but the majority of his appearances have been from the bench, and an offer of more guaranteed first-team football may yet tempt him away from Wearside.
That would be a considerable blow for Bruce, who is desperate to retain the experienced Zenden for his positive influence on a youthful Sunderland squad, both on and off the field.
But Zenden believes he is not ready to step aside for more youthful players yet – because he still feels young at heart himself.
“We’ll have to wait and see about another year but I’m having a good time,” he said.
“I don’t feel old. I’m just one of the boys. Maybe only once I felt old, when they said they had been on the PlayStation for three hours. I said ‘Seriously? You were on there for three hours until two in the morning?’
“Then I thought maybe I was too old but then I remembered then when I was younger that I wasn’t really interested in computers or anything.
“I know the music though. I know Tinie Tempah and all of them. I’m not that old! I’m still feeling like one of the boys.
