Magpies considering making Hutton inquiry
NEWCASTLE United want on-loan Sunderland defender Alan Hutton to shore up their back four for the forthcoming tilt at the Premier League.
The £5million-rated Scotland international is set to leave Spurs this summer and Steve Bruce has already confirmed he wants to take him to the Stadium of Light.
But Harry Redknapp has claimed that Hutton has held talks with Newcastle about becoming part of Chris Hughton’s re-modelled side.
“I think you will find Newcastle are in for him as well – someone has told me he has been talking to Newcastle,” the Spurs boss said.
“He is not supposed to be but he has, you know. We will only let him go if we get an awful lot of money for him, otherwise he comes back to Tottenham.”
Although the negotiations with Hutton are a sign that Newcastle are prepared to spend to improve their squad, the Black Cats remain in the driving seat to sign Hutton and Bruce is relaxed about Redknapp’s claims.
Hutton is on around £30,000 a week at Tottenham and while that would put him in Newcastle’s price range, Sunderland’s wage structure would allow them to offer him significantly more.
Mike Ashley is understood to have imposed strict limitations of Hughton’s summer spending, looking for young players with re-sale value.
