Sunderland Res 6, Bolton Wanderers Res 1

Sunderland went two goals up in the 51st minute after a misplaced pass from Bolton’s Aaron Mooy gave the ball away to Healy in the left-hand channel, the former Fulham man played a diagonal ball over the defence to O’Donovan on the right side of the box and he finished low across the keeper and into the bottom left-hand corner. O’Donovan completed his hat-trick in the 64th minute.

Healy played a clever ball in behind the full-back for Michael Brown to run onto and he crossed in low, Adam Reed got his toe to the ball in the middle but couldn’t direct it and O’Donovan pounced on the loose ball and placed his shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Healy made it 5-1 from the spot in the 82nd minute, after O’Donovan was brought down by Bolton skipper Tom Eckersley.

Luscombe completed the rout two minutes later.
