Corbridge-born Bruce is now into his 12th season of management and although he has never lifted a major trophy in all that time, he is well respected for consistently producing teams which punch above their weight.
Bruce’s burgeoning reputation was further enhanced by last week’s 2-2 draw at Manchester United. And Red Devils defender John O’Shea has admitted his team came very close to their first home defeat since March.
“We had two tough games in Europe as well to start the Champions League campaign and we’ve had two wins there as well so it was disappointing against Sunderland,” conceded the versatile Republic of Ireland international.
“To be fair we looked as if we were going to get beat but we pulled something out of it, we got a point and you never know, that point could be crucial come the end of the season.”
