Fraizer happy with Black Cats role

FRAIZER Campbell will not be moaning if Steve Bruce decides he will act as cover for Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones this season despite notching his first goal for Sunderland in the Carling Cup this week.

Campbell got off the mark with a fine header in the comfortable 2-0 defeat of Birmingham City and has started three successive games for the Wearsiders.

But the youngster will not whine if he returns to the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday as he is happy to continue to develop his game under Bruce.

He said: “I was happy to get off the mark. It lifts a lot of weight off your shoulders because I have been thinking when will it come. Now I can just relax and concentrate on my football. I’m sure more will follow.

“I couldn’t even begin to tell you when my last one was, I think it was against Fulham when I was at Tottenham, It was a while back. I was scoring for England, but I was only getting ten or 15 minutes here and there for Spurs.

“I feel part of the team, part of the plans. Sometimes I will be on the bench, sometimes I will be in the team. It’s the same for all of the players. It’s a real booster for me. I want to start as many

matches as I can but there’s no guarantees for any player here.

“I’ve scored, but I don’t know whether I will be in on Sunday against Wolves or not, no one does really.

“I just have to keep focused and training hard. There was a little bit of me that thought I would be playing back-up to Kenwyne and Darren this season, but in football things change.
