Kenwyne confident he’ll win over fans

"It is also important in terms of meeting your new team-mates and getting a new team spirit with some of the lads you haven’t seen for a while. It’s a good time for any football player. I don’t want to

blame the lack of a pre-season, but I didn’t really feel 100 per cent like myself until right at the end of last season. It was quite difficult to get back to being myself after such a serious injury, and I didn’t really appreciate how long it would take.

"It was a real experience for me, and I suppose I’m thankful for that, but I’m pleased to be able to put all of that behind me and look forward to an injury-free campaign."

The addition of England under-21 prospect Campbell – at a knock-down £3.5million – gives Jones some fresh competition up front. But the towering striker is not worried by the prospect of either Crouch or Bent signing up.

"I don’t know a lot about Fraizer," he admitted. "I’ve seen him playing for Tottenham and Hull this last year, but I don’t really know too much about him.

"I know he’s done well and I congratulate him on getting his move. Hopefully, we can come together as a pair because that’s important.

"I’ve heard the talk about Peter Crouch, but I don’t feel concerned about it all. A bid for anyone puts pressure on a lot of people.

"That’s the nature of football. I can’t worry about whether Peter Crouch is coming or not, all I can do is work on my own game and leave the rest up to the manager.

"If Peter Crouch comes, we will be a strong team. But I’ll still be confident in my own ability and expect to play a big part in the team next season."

Meanwhile, Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy is set to sign for Hull City for £3million. He will have a medical at the KC Stadium tomorrow, although QPR are also interested.
