THE MOTHER of a woman killed in a Turkish terrorist blast spoke of her heartache last night after the trial of the suspected bomber was adjourned for three months.
Sharon Holden’s 21-year-old daughter was killed on July 16, 2005, when a bomb ripped through a tourist bus in the Turkish seaside resort of Kusadasi.
Helyn Bennett, from Spennymoor in County Durham, was one of five people killed when explosives were detonated by a mobile phone strapped to a bag under the front seat of the bus.
For the last four years her mother has waited to face the man accused of triggering the blast. But yesterday, in a courtroom in Izmir, her heartache was postponed when the case was put off until October 9 and the suspect, known only as MSF, was remanded in custody.
Last night Mrs Holden, 44, described her emotions at seeing the man accused of killing her daughter – just two weeks before the anniversary of her daughter’s death.
She said: “It has set my mind at rest. I needed to put a face to this monster, and now I have seen his face.
“I was absolutely devastated, but I know I need to pull myself together and face the next hurdle.” MSF was arrested in April 2006 on suspicion of murder, and is accused of belonging to the PKK organisation, also known as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, and conspiracy to commit further terrorist acts on the Turkish mainland.
