SAFC fixtures revealed: Bolton up first

STEVE Bruce's first league game with Sunderland will be a tough opening day trip to Bolton Wanderers.

His first match at the Stadium of Light will be an even tougher clash with Premier League title contender Chelsea.

The new Black Cats boss has been handed a relatively gentle start to life on Wearside, with three of his first four fixtures looking eminently winnable. Blackburn visit on August 22 before a trip to Stoke on August 29.

Although the visit of Chelsea will be a tough game, the fixture list has given Bruce a chance to build on the momentum of the summer - if he makes the right additions in the interim period.

Especially because September sees them paired with Hull and Premier League newcomers Burnley and Wolves - three more games that Sunderland supporters will be looking for wins in.

Bruce's first return to Wigan is on November 28, while former club Manchester United will welcome their former defensive darling and his team on October 3.

Sunderland's Christmas programme has a distinctly North West feel, with a trip to Manchester City on December 19 before a home clash with Everton on Boxing Day and a trip to Blackburn on December 28.

The Black Cats finish with Wolves at Molineux - after Manchester United visit the Stadium of Light.
