SUNDERLAND’S Reserves booked their place in the final of the totesportcasino.com League Cup thanks to two second-half goals from Martyn Waghorn at the Fraser Eagle Stadium yesterday afternoon.
The Black Cats will play Derby County at Pride Park in the final after overcoming a difficult test in a semi-final meeting with Accrington Stanley. Stanley looked determined to upset their more illustrious opponents and that, coupled with a bumpy pitch, made for a scrappy game.
l Sunderland’s under-18s will clinch the FA Premier Academy League Group D title for a third successive season today if they beat Barnsley at the Academy of Light (1pm).
