Your comments:

Oct 28, 2009 12:06 PM If it was going to change names, yes, it should be named after the great man, but that wouldn't raise any money so Ashley won't do it.
Oct 28, 2009 12:07 PM St James's Park is fine.
Oct 28, 2009 12:09 PM I would name a stand after him but the ground should always be St James' Park
Oct 28, 2009 12:09 PM Bobby is a legend and deserves this.
Oct 28, 2009 12:10 PM legend but that wouldnt generate any cash as a sponsors name would so would defeat the point in a name change!
Oct 28, 2009 12:10 PM See above, better to name a stand after him
Oct 28, 2009 12:10 PM No it shouldn't be renamed. Sir Bobby wouldn't want it renamed either.
Oct 28, 2009 12:13 PM No need
Oct 28, 2009 12:13 PM If it must be renamed, then yes..
Oct 28, 2009 12:13 PM Absolutley Not
Oct 28, 2009 12:14 PM it should be left as it is im sure sir bobby wouldnt have wanted to change the name which is known worldwide and has been since 1892
Oct 28, 2009 12:15 PM Keep it as it is.
Oct 28, 2009 12:15 PM If it were to be anything then this would be the ideal case, however changing the name of the stadium is not going to help us. There should be a statue and a stand named after Sir Bobby.
Oct 28, 2009 12:16 PM What happens when Bob Moncur passes on, Alan Shearer, etc. Lets be realistic here.
Oct 28, 2009 12:17 PM No a Stand but not the Ground
Oct 28, 2009 12:17 PM Absolutely. I would be a fitting tribute to quite possibly one of our best managers and a true geordie gentlemen. Ashley should have renamed one of the stands after him already.
Oct 28, 2009 12:17 PM Maybe a stand should be, but nothing more. SJP is a name of rich heritage and while Sir Bobby was a great legend of the club, he'd be the first to admit himself that tradition is a good thing in football, and something which must be preserved.
Oct 28, 2009 12:17 PM Bobby is a legend, but it would be inappropriate for Newcastle to name the ground after him. He was successful for us, but not to the extent that the ground should be named in his honour, what would we do for the manager who finally wins us a trophy? Rename the city?
Oct 28, 2009 12:17 PM IF THAT WAS THE CASE BUT ASHLEY WON'T DO THAT HE WILL NAME IT AFTER THE HIGHEST BIDDER
Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM As well loved as Sir Bobby was, he didn't do as much for the club as Joe Harvey.
Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM A stand yes the ground no
Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM With the deepest respect Newcastle play a St James Park always have and always should
Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM What about Joe Harvey a manager who actually won something both as player and manager with the club? Or the many others who have down the years given their all for the club from Gallagher to Beardsley?
Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM Part of the ground could be named after Sir Bob but St James' is renouned throughout football as the Home of the Toon 26 Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM His achievements however great where elsewhere, and not at Newcastle.
Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM I think we should have a tribute to Sir Bobby but the ground is and always will be St James'
Oct 28, 2009 12:19 PM plenty of other players have donn so much more for newcastle, though i have the utmost love and respect for bobby do not name the ground after him
Oct 28, 2009 12:20 PM A stand should be named after sir bobby robson, the staduim should always be St james park. Bobby robson would want the staduim to reamin St james park and would not want it called any different, he always said that no one was bigger than this club.
Oct 28, 2009 12:21 PM The ground is named St James Park
Oct 28, 2009 12:21 PM should be left as it is! the east stand should of been renamed the Sir Bobby Robson stand, but we missed a trick and Ipswich beat us to it, but then again we always miss a trick
Oct 28, 2009 12:22 PM It should remain St James Park. I cannot imagine that Sir Bobby would want it any other way.
Oct 28, 2009 12:23 PM Yes without doubt, but the fans would respect that so it wont happen
Oct 28, 2009 12:24 PM What has Newcastle Utd, Mike Ashley and Newcastle City Council done to commemorate a Newcastle icon NOWT. To name the ground after Sir Bob is the least they could do
Oct 28, 2009 12:24 PM A stand re named would be better
Oct 28, 2009 12:24 PM There have been other great players & mangers who have spent more time at St James. And what happens if someone greater comes along later.. do we change the name again.
Oct 28, 2009 12:24 PM No BUT name a stand after Sir Bobby
Oct 28, 2009 12:24 PM They should name a stand after him,but not the stadium
Oct 28, 2009 12:25 PM The ground is St. James' Park. Always has been, always will. Much the same as the Leazes and the Gallowgate are still the same stands no matter what some PR gobbin attempts to call them.
Oct 28, 2009 12:26 PM The ground is St James park, and should remain so
Oct 28, 2009 12:27 PM Great Gesture , but it will not make money
Oct 28, 2009 12:28 PM The ground is St James Park. Always has been, always will be. If we wanted a different name, we would have built a new stadium 10 years ago, rather than re-developing SJP. 3 stands have been renamed in "recent" years but they are still the main stand, gallowgate and leazes end. Always will be.
Oct 28, 2009 12:29 PM the ground should be, and is, named St James Park.
Oct 28, 2009 12:29 PM The ground shouldn't be renamed after Sir Bobby because he wouldn't have wanted it that way.
Oct 28, 2009 12:30 PM Much as i loved the man , he is the antithesis of everything the present regime are NOT ie integrity, honour, openness, decent, a love of the North-East in general.
Oct 28, 2009 12:31 PM Bobby Robson was a great man, but only represents a small and probably (in the longer run)insignficant period of Newcastle United's history
Oct 28, 2009 12:31 PM That ain't gonna generate any income unfortunately
Oct 28, 2009 12:32 PM It is right that Ipswich named a stand after him given his length of service and success there. Why would Newcastle United name their entire stadium after him considering his much shorter and arguably less successful stay there? The question is sentimental in the extreme
Oct 28, 2009 12:32 PM Sir Bobby deserves to be remembered with a plaque or memorial but surely he had all his successes away from St James Park. A lifelong supporter? That's not merit enough. Shearer, Beardsley and many others should be further up the list. If we're choosing managers, why not the managers that won us trophies?
Oct 28, 2009 12:32 PM The ground should stay as St. James Park as it's always been. The Sir John Hall stand should be renamed after Sir Bobby.
Oct 28, 2009 12:33 PM the east stand should have been named after bobby by now.
Oct 28, 2009 12:34 PM bobby robson is a newcastle legend but the ground is St James Park and should be kept that way
Oct 28, 2009 12:34 PM bobby always said no one person is bigger than the club. a stand yes, but the ground no - there is a lot more history to the ground than sir Bobby
Oct 28, 2009 12:34 PM Name a stand after Sir Bob.
Oct 28, 2009 12:35 PM If it was to be renamed yes the Sir Bobby Robson Arena. But we all know Ashley only wants money for his back pocket.
Oct 28, 2009 12:35 PM Whilst Bobby made a great contribution to the club, and football generally, there are many other candidates including Hughie Gallacher, Jackie Milburn, Joe Harvey etc who have made a greater contribution to the club in the past.
Oct 28, 2009 12:36 PM Loved sir Bob but no to this.
Oct 28, 2009 12:36 PM I don't think Sir Bobby would want to see it called anything other than SJP.
Oct 28, 2009 12:37 PM A stand maybe but not the whole stadium
Oct 28, 2009 12:37 PM He was proud of St James' Park and his association with it & NUFC
Oct 28, 2009 12:38 PM It should stay St James` park.
Oct 28, 2009 12:39 PM perhaps a stand but not the stadium. no-one, not even our Sir Bobby is bigger than the club.
Oct 28, 2009 12:40 PM the ground has a name but something major should be done in the great mans honour.
Oct 28, 2009 12:41 PM I think possible renaming the East Stand after him is an idea, but SJP should be kept.
Oct 28, 2009 12:41 PM A great man by all means rename a stand in his honour, how about re naming the Sir John Hall stand, his greed put the club in the situation they are in.
Oct 28, 2009 12:41 PM The great man never wanted that kind of honour. He would turn in his grave if it happened.
Oct 28, 2009 12:41 PM It would be a lovely gesture by Ashley, but it wouldnt raise the cash the Newcastle hierachy want?
Oct 28, 2009 12:41 PM Maybe a stand. SJP is SJP!!!
Oct 28, 2009 12:42 PM Perhaps the freeholders should have a say in this matter.
Oct 28, 2009 12:42 PM The ground will always be called St. James' Park.
Oct 28, 2009 12:44 PM If there were to be a NEW stadium! Sir Bobby Robson is the person we should honour!
Oct 28, 2009 12:44 PM No, i love SBR as much as anyone, we should have named a stand and not left it to Ispwich to do it, we should have done it when he was alive so he could see it. SJP is the name and will always be the name.
Oct 28, 2009 12:45 PM Only if the ground is re-named, a stand being re-named would be better.
Oct 28, 2009 12:46 PM He would certainly not have wanted this.
Oct 28, 2009 12:47 PM I think a stand should be named after Sir Bobby, 100% but it should always remain St James's Park
Oct 28, 2009 12:48 PM Thats a bit too far - but better than the B&Q stadium etc
Oct 28, 2009 12:48 PM A stand maybe but not the whole ground. Also I fail to see where MA would make money on naming the ground after Sir Bobby?
Oct 28, 2009 12:48 PM This would be a great idea, but is a non-starter as it will not be revenue-generating.
Oct 28, 2009 12:49 PM St James Park should remain, it's an absolute disgrace that Ipswich have named a Stand after SBR but C'Ashely hasn't. Contemptable
Oct 28, 2009 12:49 PM Possibly. However i thought the debate concerned selling the naming rights ?
Oct 28, 2009 12:49 PM A stand should be, but the name St James Park should remain.
Oct 28, 2009 12:49 PM I'm not sure Sir Bobby would have been happy about this either. But there should certainly be a stand named after him. 83 Oct 28, 2009 12:50 PM Great football man but not a NUFC great - good job but not enough to warrant the ground being named after him. Anyway, Ashley wouldn't get any money from this!
Oct 28, 2009 12:50 PM why??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Oct 28, 2009 12:50 PM It would be great but how could a naming sponsor incorporate it?
Oct 28, 2009 12:52 PM A stand should be named after him , but not the ground
Oct 28, 2009 12:53 PM I have great respect for SBR but I think SJP will always be SJP and Sir Bob would have wanted it that way as well.
Oct 28, 2009 12:53 PM It should not be changed from St. James'
Oct 28, 2009 12:54 PM Only if there is any benefit to the Club. I don.t really think that SBR would have wished this change.
Oct 28, 2009 12:55 PM No, and I doubt Bobby would want that. It would be more fitting to rename to SirJohn Hall Stand as the Sit Bobby Robson stand - Sir John Hall left us the legacy of Mike Ashley after all !!!
Oct 28, 2009 12:55 PM No, the ground should stay the same as it always has. There are many ways to honour the legends who have graced the pitch here, and all of them would certainly want the St James' Park name to remain intact.
Oct 28, 2009 12:55 PM Possibly name a Stand after the great man?
Oct 28, 2009 12:56 PM Just leave it as st james park man.
Oct 28, 2009 12:57 PM no problem for that.
Oct 28, 2009 12:57 PM ST JAMES PARK has great history and memories of a life time. It should keep its name!
Oct 28, 2009 12:57 PM IF it were to be renamed it would be to gain revenue through advertising not for sentemental value.
Oct 28, 2009 12:58 PM As much as I love and respect the great man, I don't think the stadium should be named after him and I think he'd feel the same way.
Oct 28, 2009 12:58 PM I WOULD LIKE TO THINK SO, BUT THERE IS NO MONEY IN THAT
Oct 28, 2009 12:59 PM but a stand should
Oct 28, 2009 1:00 PM Much as everyone liked the man, its not even something I think he would want!
Oct 28, 2009 1:01 PM It should be left as St James Park, end of story
Oct 28, 2009 1:03 PM No disrespect but I'd rather keep the traditional name if not sponsored.
Oct 28, 2009 1:05 PM The ground is bigger than any one manager or player. I'm not comfortable with naming stands after players let alone grounds.
Oct 28, 2009 1:07 PM See above.
Oct 28, 2009 1:07 PM Quite simply because I don't think the ground should be re-named, a stand names after the great Sir Bobby would be the way to go, the East Stand for example.
Oct 28, 2009 1:07 PM As much as I loved the great man, I think that he would be horrified at the prospect of the ground being called anything other than St James' Park. This is 117 years of history we're talking about!!
Oct 28, 2009 1:08 PM It would be hypocritical for the club to name the ground after an ex - manager that they sacked. By all means name one of the stands, but it still smacks of populism rather than sincerity.
Oct 28, 2009 1:08 PM Has to stay St James' Park but would not be so hostile if named after Sir Bobby.
Oct 28, 2009 1:09 PM St James' park should remain as it is. At the most mabey a stand could be re-named.
Oct 28, 2009 1:10 PM It would be the only thing he got right up to now
Oct 28, 2009 1:11 PM No that's sentimental nonsense and anyway there are plenty of other contenders such as Bob Moncur, Nigel Walker, Kenny Wharton etc but the name should stay as SJP
Oct 28, 2009 1:11 PM With all due respect to this true gentleman, the ground could have been named after many more legends of Newcastle even before Bobby's time, but hasn't. RIP Sir Bobby!
Oct 28, 2009 1:12 PM As great as the man was renaming the ground after him would be a bad choice as others have done greater things at the club than him, his main successes came at Ipswich and England. It won't happen though as that wouldn't come under maximising commercial revenue like the statement said, but if that's the case wasting money on tosh is still far worse.
Oct 28, 2009 1:13 PM A stand should be
Oct 28, 2009 1:13 PM Why?
Oct 28, 2009 1:14 PM great man but i think even sir bobby would not like to change st james park
Oct 28, 2009 1:14 PM The ground is named St James Park and should always remain so. Regardless of this, Bobby Robson was a fantastic man and a great ambassador for football but there have been other managers/players in history who acheived more than Sir Bobby from a footballing perspective.
Oct 28, 2009 1:14 PM But a stand should be
Oct 28, 2009 1:15 PM No not the whole ground but i think they should have a stand renamed of the great man.
Oct 28, 2009 1:15 PM All respect to Sir Bobby - But NUFC is older and has a massive part to play in the footballing future of England. I would rather see St James Boulevard renamed.
Oct 28, 2009 1:18 PM I cannot see this happening unless we were to move to a new stadium. Mike Ashley should have decided to name a stand after Sir Bobby soon after he passed away and yet we are still waiting for this to happen. Even Ipswich got there before us. Another example of how out of touch with the fans Ashley really is, or this could just prove he does not care less what we think. All he is is interested in is making more money by getting some sponser in.
Oct 28, 2009 1:18 PM A stand should certainly be named after the great man, as Ipswich have done, and the best candidate for this would be the East Stand. As mentioned before, should we move to a new stadium then the stadium should bear the name of Sir Bobby, but St James' Park should remain St James' Park.
Oct 28, 2009 1:19 PM great manager, took the team forward but we didnt win anything with him. Should the city of newcastle do something well thats another question
Oct 28, 2009 1:19 PM Great man, but his greatest achievements were nopt withy Newcastle.
Oct 28, 2009 1:20 PM No, possibly a stand, but even then there are other managers for example Joe Harvey who probably deserve an accolade like this just as much or even more. I also don't believe Bobby would want the ground named after him. St James park was a sacred place to him, and he often spoke about being first in St James' on a Saturday afternoon with his Dad and Brother, when he was a child. I don't believe Bobby would want the history and tradition of St James' discarded for any reason.
Oct 28, 2009 1:21 PM The East stand yes but not the ground.
Oct 28, 2009 1:21 PM nice idea but, but we need money for transfers and ashleigh aint putting his hand in his pocket
Oct 28, 2009 1:22 PM Despite the good work Sir Bobby did, he is just one of several figures with a significant contribution to the clubs history. Joe Harvey, Jackie Milburn, kevin keegan, Alan Shearer. The ground should remain St James, although I would not be against a stand being named after Sir Bob
Oct 28, 2009 1:22 PM As much as I have dear memories of Wor Bobby, The man himself would have said no. No man is greater than a club. A stand should be named in his honour. Im all for renaming the Sir John Hall stand in his honour. After all Mr Hall (as far as im concerned) is the man who has sold his soul to the devil in order to make a fast buck.
Oct 28, 2009 1:23 PM Not the whole ground but the East Stand should be.
Oct 28, 2009 1:24 PM No leave it as it is.
Oct 28, 2009 1:24 PM Sir Bobby Robson was a legend to us, but St James' Park is St James' Park. Leave be.
Oct 28, 2009 1:25 PM Sir Bobby wwas great but he is not the only one.
Oct 28, 2009 1:29 PM Sir Bobby was a great bloke and well loved everywhere, but there are people in this clubs history who have won Big Trophies as players and manager who should be ahead of him.
Oct 28, 2009 1:29 PM Although we are still to have something renamed after the legend that is Sir Bobby, renaming the ground is not the way forward. As i stated, St James' Park shoudl not change name at all. If you are to name anything after him, the East Stand should be renamed.
Oct 28, 2009 1:30 PM No, whats that got to do with anything. SJP and SJP only. Booby was great, erect a statue in his honour.
Oct 28, 2009 1:30 PM Let's not get too sentimental - whilst he was one of the most respected ambassadors in the game, he didn't achieve any success with Newcastle. Why not The Joe Harvey stadium as he actually won something?
Oct 28, 2009 1:30 PM No, as I understand it, the club's name will be sold to a corporate sponsor so that wouldn't be an option anway. Bobby Robson did a lot for football as a whole, but in terms of Newcastle, I feel others have acheived more. But I wouldn't be against the renaming of the Sir John Hall Stand to the Sir Bobby Robson Stand.
Oct 28, 2009 1:31 PM Stands, gates, bars, OK. Stadium name, no.
Oct 28, 2009 1:31 PM No - it should remain St James' Park - however a stand would be good - remove Sir John Halls name.
Oct 28, 2009 1:31 PM It should be The Poundland Stadium
Oct 28, 2009 1:32 PM By all means rename a stand after him, preferably the Sir John Hall Stand, but Sir Bobby would not agree with changing the stadium name for any reason.
Oct 28, 2009 1:32 PM Legend and possibly the greatest ever NUFC manager. Nothing else needs to be said.
Oct 28, 2009 1:33 PM As much as it was very sad to see Sir Bobby Robson passing I do not believe that we should rename the ground SBR, although I do think we should rename one of the stands - such as the John Hall stand.
Oct 28, 2009 1:34 PM It should be named St James Park
Oct 28, 2009 1:34 PM It's called Saint James' Park. Full stop. Only clubs that move to new grounds have a sponsor's name.
Oct 28, 2009 1:35 PM No he never did anything for Newcastle.
Oct 28, 2009 1:37 PM IF it has to change, it would be a fitting name
Oct 28, 2009 1:38 PM I think it more fitting they rename the East Stand after Sir Bobby
Oct 28, 2009 1:39 PM This is the only name instead of St James Park that would suffice
Oct 28, 2009 1:40 PM No, maybe a stand but not the stadium. St James Park is too important to everyone in Newcastle to change it even for such an inspirational and important man such as Sir Bobby.
Oct 28, 2009 1:42 PM Sir Bobby was one of the finest men to walk this planet and deserves every accolade possible. However, even Sir Bobby would be more than content to have a stand or a street named after his good self.
Oct 28, 2009 1:45 PM As much as it would be a nice gesture to the fantastic man, there are people who have done more for the club.
Oct 28, 2009 1:47 PM A stand should be
Oct 28, 2009 1:49 PM I do think naming a stand in his name is a good idea though.
Oct 28, 2009 1:49 PM No I think Ipswich naming a stand after him is fair enough after all the success he had, I think a statue or something at St James' park would be a nice sentiment, renaming the stadium or stand at St James' wouldn't seem right, no matter how loved he is by Newcastle
Oct 28, 2009 1:50 PM I think naming a stand after Sir Bobby would suffice.
Oct 28, 2009 1:55 PM Do not insult Bobby
Oct 28, 2009 1:58 PM We all loved Sir Bobby and the Sports Direct above the Gallogate stand should be removed and the stand renamed after Sir Bobby, even Sir |Bobby would not want that
Oct 28, 2009 1:59 PM Leave it as it is.
Oct 28, 2009 2:01 PM It is St. James Park. Hallowed and loved. Always is, always was and always should be.
Oct 28, 2009 2:04 PM This would be good but I can't see it happening as Mike Ashley never does anything right- it will probably be named after something like toilet paper (imagine The Andrex Arena?)
Oct 28, 2009 2:06 PM its st james park and always will be!
Oct 28, 2009 2:10 PM It should remain St James' Park.
Oct 28, 2009 2:11 PM It has a name already.
Oct 28, 2009 2:13 PM Bobby would have been the first to say no man is bigger than the club! He was proud of St James' Park
Oct 28, 2009 2:15 PM Would be a lovely gesture but the decision should be driven by commercial needs
Oct 28, 2009 2:17 PM No, a stand? Yes. The ground SJP forever.
Oct 28, 2009 2:17 PM I don't think the ground should be re-named at all. I'm sure Sir Bobby would be quite happy with St James' Park. The only reason the ground would be re-named is for financial reasons to fill Ashley's pockets.
Oct 28, 2009 2:22 PM should remain SJP
Oct 28, 2009 2:26 PM A stand should
Oct 28, 2009 2:32 PM yes and no, part of the ground should but i think there is space for other legends to come out of the ground.
Oct 28, 2009 2:39 PM had great respect for sir bobby but its st james park or nothing
Oct 28, 2009 2:55 PM Sir Bobby is just one of several good managers we've had.
Oct 28, 2009 3:08 PM I have upmost respect for SBR but his biggest successes were away from Newcastle. His time at Newcastle wasn't as successful as Keegan's and certainly not as great as the FA cup winning sides of mid-century. The ground should continue to be St James' Park. If this is the way things are going though SBR should be behind Jackie Milburn and KK in the queue.
Oct 28, 2009 3:11 PM Maybe a stand, but not the ground.
Oct 28, 2009 3:15 PM Leave SJP as it stands as a ground. I've no objection to re-naming a stand to honour the great Sir Bobby - written large on the roof so everyone can see it.
Oct 28, 2009 3:18 PM I don't think he wouldn't have wanted that. It wouldn't happen anyway - there'd be no money in it for Ashley
Oct 28, 2009 3:26 PM SBR wouldn't want SJP to be renamed as much as the next supporter!
Oct 28, 2009 3:27 PM East Stand yes.
Oct 28, 2009 3:34 PM As much loved as Bobby Robson is, a stand would be more appropriate for him. ST. JAMES' PARK SHOULD STAY ST. JAMES' PARK!
Oct 28, 2009 3:36 PM The East Stand should be renamed
Oct 28, 2009 3:36 PM The club is bigger than any one person - when are people going to understand that?
Oct 28, 2009 3:42 PM this would not lead to sponsorship money but a stand could be named after him
Oct 28, 2009 3:48 PM Or leave it as it is
Oct 28, 2009 3:51 PM Yeah because he is a legend in the town
Oct 28, 2009 3:53 PM I don't think Sir Bobby would like to see the ground name changed after it was St James' park when he was a boy supporting them
Oct 28, 2009 3:53 PM With all due respect, it is St. James Park.
Oct 28, 2009 4:05 PM But only now that he has decided to rename St James. Is unlikely though as where is the money in renaming the ground after Sir Booby for him? ps. My opinion is a stand should be named after Sir Bobby and not the ground.
Oct 28, 2009 4:06 PM Great as Sir Bobby was i feel the clubs ground should remain as ST JAMES` PARK
Oct 28, 2009 4:10 PM Nothing more needs to be said about the grand gentleman, but our Stadium should not be renamed
Oct 28, 2009 4:11 PM Nice, but nice won't pay the bills or buy a quality player.
Oct 28, 2009 4:13 PM Much as he is loved, I don't think that Sir Bobby Robson himself would want the name of the ground changed. Naming a stand after him would be appropriate
Oct 28, 2009 4:17 PM the heart says yes,but ashley will take money from the likes of b&q or homebase for the naming rights
Oct 28, 2009 4:17 PM Bobby would not have wanted that.
Oct 28, 2009 4:18 PM The ground should remain as SJP
Oct 28, 2009 4:23 PM st james park - ALWAYS!
Oct 28, 2009 4:25 PM No disrespect, but United`s history goes back much further than any one persons stewardship.
Oct 28, 2009 4:28 PM I love Bobby to bits and he must have a fitting memorial but his career was worldwide and we sadly only got 5 years of his talent at SJP. You could make an equally strong case out for Wor Jackie or Joe harvey et al.
Oct 28, 2009 4:31 PM I could stand it been called Sir bobby robson, but nothing else.
Oct 28, 2009 4:31 PM It should be called St. James' Park like it has for over 100 years.
Oct 28, 2009 4:35 PM Certainly a stand should be - In my personal opinion the East Stand or The Newcastle Brown Stand
Oct 28, 2009 4:35 PM With all due respect to Bobby, it always has been and always will be St. James' park to the loyal supporters.
Oct 28, 2009 4:36 PM I don't believe in the cult of the personality no matter how worthy the individual as in the case of Sir Bobby. I think there are better ways to honour the great man.
Oct 28, 2009 4:39 PM No Comments.
Oct 28, 2009 4:39 PM There is nothing wrong with St James' Park, however I believe the East Stand should have his name.
Oct 28, 2009 4:39 PM A stand, certainly, but not the ground itself. Also, how would that generate funds?
Oct 28, 2009 4:40 PM The ground is called St James Park. Sir Bobby would not want the ground re-named after him. Re-naming a stand or building a memorial statue would be fitting enough tributes for the great man.
Oct 28, 2009 4:47 PM That would be a smart move
Oct 28, 2009 4:48 PM With the greatest respect to Bobby Robson, this would be a travesty. I think even Bobby would turn in his grave if this were to happen.
Oct 28, 2009 4:59 PM Bobby was only here for a few years - Jo Harvey did more for the club.
Oct 28, 2009 5:01 PM See previous answer. I love Sir Bobby and I am sure he would agree that the ground shoulld always be known as St. James Park
Oct 28, 2009 5:05 PM It is the only other alternative but as a world wide business traveller I can assure you St Jame's Park is known universally. It really is synominous with Newcastle upon Tyne.
Oct 28, 2009 5:22 PM It's St James' Park. The East Stand should be redeveloped and renamed the Sir Bobby Robson stand, though there's no chance of that while Ashley is in charge
Oct 28, 2009 5:23 PM For all I admire SBR, he won nothing as manager and never played for the club
Oct 28, 2009 5:26 PM however if it were to be renamed this is the most appropriate name.
Oct 28, 2009 5:32 PM But perhaps a stand
Oct 28, 2009 5:40 PM Never
Oct 28, 2009 5:42 PM No, it should be left as St James' Park
Oct 28, 2009 5:45 PM This would be the only thing I would agree with if the stadium was to have a name change. But there would be no chance of that as there would be no financial benefit to the owner.
Oct 28, 2009 5:49 PM see 3.
Oct 28, 2009 5:50 PM What did he win? Nice guy, didn't win a thing.
Oct 28, 2009 5:50 PM sir bobby robson himself would not like sjp renamed
Oct 28, 2009 5:50 PM No, Sir Bobby would prefer SJP.
Oct 28, 2009 6:01 PM As much as i love Sir Bobby and he is probably the nicest bloke ever to be in football i just think it should be called St James Park the way it has been for many years, however if it was a choice between Sir Bobby and a Brand like Burger King i would choose Sir Bobby everytime
Oct 28, 2009 6:06 PM The ground should always remain St James's Park, Bobby was and is a ledgend at Newcastle so a stand should be named after him but not the ground.
Oct 28, 2009 6:07 PM He was a great man, but no man is bigger than the club
Oct 28, 2009 6:14 PM Although I'm a great admirer of the late Sir Bobby, I think if it is beneficial to the club to sell the rights then I'm all for it.
Oct 28, 2009 6:25 PM He was an excellent manager and wonderful man, with great integrity but all of his success was with other clubs. He never played for Newcastle and won nothing with us as a manager, whereas Joe Harvey lifted the FA Cup as a Newcastle player and won a European Trophy for us in 1969 as a manager - our last piece of silverware. So he would be more deserving for the accolade but I think the ground should stay as St James Park.
Oct 28, 2009 6:27 PM Naming a stand would be a great tribute - but leave St James' Park as it is
Oct 28, 2009 6:27 PM a stand maybe but not the ground
Oct 28, 2009 6:28 PM If a new ground were to be built then yes.
Oct 28, 2009 6:46 PM Its St James Park and always should be.
Oct 28, 2009 6:49 PM if they have to name the ground but why change an asset synonamous with NUFC
Oct 28, 2009 6:52 PM yes but will never happen too many money men,,but nice thought
Oct 28, 2009 6:59 PM Sir Bobby was a legend, and should be left to rest in peace. I dont think its what he would have wanted, he wouldnt have wished seeing the place he loved change in that way.
Oct 28, 2009 7:06 PM He did very little at Newcastle compared to his lifetime achievements and the ground is called St James Park; it has a name.
Oct 28, 2009 7:13 PM Don't think the great man would want this himself!
Oct 28, 2009 7:17 PM there has always been great geordies who deserve this accolade and in the future there could be more
Oct 28, 2009 7:21 PM Great idea that might actually bring help to his charity rather than lining ashley's greasy pockets. Will it happen? No I'm afraid not............ well not as long as cashley is at the helm.
Oct 28, 2009 7:23 PM If it is going to be changed then this is what I would like
Oct 28, 2009 7:29 PM If the ground is to be named anything other than St James' Park, then yes. However, the same rationale would also hold for Keegan, Shearer and other Newcastle greats.
Oct 28, 2009 7:30 PM Definitely not.
Oct 28, 2009 7:37 PM I thought about this, but much as I love SBR, the club is greater than the man.
Oct 28, 2009 7:54 PM It wont be as there is no money in giving it that name
Oct 28, 2009 8:08 PM A stand, yes - the ground, no. Bobby would NEVER have wanted the ground's name changed - and his humility would mean above all he wouldn't want it to incorporate his own name
Oct 28, 2009 8:16 PM The East Stan should be renamed in SBR's memory.
Oct 28, 2009 8:23 PM I do not believe the ground needs to be renamed
Oct 28, 2009 8:27 PM Name a stand after the great man
Oct 28, 2009 8:28 PM Bobby Robson was a hero but the ground is called St James Park!
Oct 28, 2009 8:31 PM a stand should be named after sir bobby only
Oct 28, 2009 8:43 PM if it has to be re-named then that's certainly a good idea.
Oct 28, 2009 8:43 PM He only spent a few years at the Club and anyway it's St James's Park.
Oct 28, 2009 8:51 PM A stand would be appropriate.
Oct 28, 2009 8:57 PM Even dear Sir Bobby would not have wanted that, although some part of the stadium should be named after him.
Oct 28, 2009 9:05 PM Why change the name of the ground? They could erect a statue in memory of Sir Bobby.
Oct 28, 2009 9:15 PM Great man but no.
Oct 28, 2009 9:20 PM why not is this the better option than naming writes.
Oct 28, 2009 9:30 PM How can I be saying yes to both q3 and q4..I dont know. I would be happy with either option though it now seems like Ipswich have beat us to the punch with the naming of their Stand.
Oct 28, 2009 9:33 PM I thinkl a stand named after Sir Bobby is the correct tribute along side that other great "wor Jackie Milburn"
Oct 28, 2009 9:40 PM that is the only suggestion i would like
Oct 28, 2009 9:47 PM Great man though he was, we play at St. James Park
Oct 28, 2009 10:16 PM Its St James Park
Oct 28, 2009 10:18 PM Name part of the ground after Sir Bobby but St James' Park should stay St James' Park
Oct 28, 2009 10:28 PM no, nobody
Oct 28, 2009 10:31 PM No great feelings here
Oct 28, 2009 10:47 PM Having a stand named after Sir Bobby is good, but the stadium is St James Park.
Oct 28, 2009 11:03 PM No - Our most glorious years belong to Kevin Keegan. I dont believe we should go with Sir Bobby although he's a good bloke!
Oct 28, 2009 11:35 PM Definitely one of the stands though
Oct 29, 2009 12:00 AM no but it could be associated ie st james park sir bobby's spiritual home
Oct 29, 2009 12:12 AM But the East Stand should be
Oct 29, 2009 12:14 AM iwould not object but prefer sjp
Oct 29, 2009 12:22 AM Its St James Park always has been always should be. (If one was to name it after anybody it should be Joe Harvey)
Oct 29, 2009 12:32 AM He was great but so was a lot of other people that have been part of this club, but we should name a stand after him
Oct 29, 2009 12:35 AM Keep it as St James's Park.
Oct 29, 2009 12:45 AM or at least a stand.
Oct 29, 2009 1:10 AM Not even for Sir Bobby, the name should not be changed.
Oct 29, 2009 3:14 AM Good idea
Oct 29, 2009 4:33 AM It would be the only acceptable change
Oct 29, 2009 6:18 AM I do not think Sir Bobby woulkd agree with the name change
Oct 29, 2009 6:35 AM A stand for me but notthe ground
Oct 29, 2009 7:42 AM it should always be st james park
Oct 29, 2009 7:46 AM why has a club like Ipswich Town named a stand after Sir Bobby Robson and we have done absolutely nothing to remember this great gentleman we yet again are being left behind like always
Oct 29, 2009 8:03 AM Sir Bobby would be embarrassed.
Oct 29, 2009 8:19 AM He was a great manager for a brief period in the Club history but most ofd his career was spent away from Newcastle. No single person is greater than the Club and if they were then surely Joe Harvey as player and manager would be higher up the list than SBR.
Oct 29, 2009 8:25 AM No, some things shouldn't change. Sir Bobby will be respected, but lets not get silly.
Oct 29, 2009 8:38 AM A stand should be - plus a bronze statue directly outside St James
Oct 29, 2009 8:41 AM name a stand would be nice but sir bobby would never stand for the iconic name of SJP been changed
Oct 29, 2009 8:50 AM Yes if was changed to any name Sir Bobby Robson sounds ok but, I feel Sir Bobby would not want that he would want it to remain St James Park
Oct 29, 2009 8:59 AM Maybe part of the ground (a stand or something), but St James' will always be and should always be St James'
Oct 29, 2009 9:00 AM same reasons as above - nothing against bobby
Oct 29, 2009 9:07 AM If anyone it should be Joe Harvey - someone who actually won something.
Oct 29, 2009 9:13 AM Although he was a great man and servant of NUFC.
Oct 29, 2009 9:13 AM LEGEND! Enough said
Oct 29, 2009 9:29 AM it will always be st james park new ground maybe
