NEWCASTLE United reserves booked their place in the Sage Northumberland Senior Cup Final last night after 2-0 win over Ashington.

Second-half goals from Brad Inman and Michael Richardson booked a final date with Blyth Spartans. United never looked in danger of a shock exit.

On 20 minutes Ashington goalkeeper Karl Dryden made a great fingertip save to deny Inman. Michael Richardson’s snapshot moments later also forced Dryden into another block.

Inman bagged United’s first when he fed off Richardson’s pass and rifled it into the top corner.

The goal came seven minutes in and it was a huge test of Ashington’s resolve.

Richardson bagged an equally impressive strike with an angled left shot that flew beyond Dryden on the hour.
