GOALS from Ryan Donaldson and Phil Airey helped Newcastle’s reserves to victory over Everton at their training centre in Benton yesterday.
Donaldson, back after a spell on loan at Hartlepool United, struck after eight minutes of the Premier Reserve League clash when his looping header drifted into the net.
United’s lead doubled soon after when Airey – who had twice seen his efforts on goal cleared off the line – bundled in from close-range.
Everton grabbed a lifeline just before half-time when Conor McAleny pulled one back but were unable to impose themselves on their hosts in the second-half who had chances to win this game by a more convincing margin.
NEWCASTLE UNITED RESERVES: Krul; Nicholson, Nzuzi, Tavernier, Riley; Richardson, McLaughlin, Inman, Donaldson, Sammy Ameobi; Airey. Subs (not used): Soderberg, Storey, Sayer, Miele, McGorrigan.
