NEWCASTLE United Reserves slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Bradford City’s Valley Parade last night in their final away fixture of the season.
Alan Thompson’s young side could have taken the lead as early as the first minute but French striker Wesley Ngo Baheng, having raced in behind the Bantams’ backline, shot straight at home goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.
Within five minutes, however, the hosts were in front – Leon Osborne latching onto an incisive through ball before firing beyond Ole Soderberg.
McLaughlin again thwarted the visitors at the other end with Frank Danquah, striking powerfully towards goal having worked space in the penalty area, the man denied.
City clung on until the break and, having emerged for the second period in more positive fashion, doubled their advantage on 54 minutes with Osborne again the scorer.
Still the Magpies pressed for a reply, but McLaughlin saved from both Aaron Spear and Nile Ranger in the closing stages.
