NEWCASTLE produced a top-class display against the Youth Cup holders to take a point that could have been three.
United, second from bottom of Group D, mastered the wind and took the game to their Premier League opponents.
Four good Newcastle chances went begging as the game hung in the balance. Liverpool were denied an early lead by a Mark Cook save, turning over a Marvin Pourie drive.
At the other end, Ryan Donaldson, put through by Jonny Godsmark, did everything right but saw his shot deflect off Martin Hansen and go inches wide.
Godsmark was sent through twice by second-half passes from Donaldson and Patrick McLaughlin, but could not score. Late on Donaldson's cross reached Shane Ferguson but his effort went over.
NEWCASTLE UNITED UNDER-18s: Cook; Leadbitter, Lough, Francis, Morris, McLaughlin, Godsmark, Inman, Donaldson, Ferguson, McCrudden. Subs (not used): Wrightson, Bath, Taylor, Soderberg.
