HARRY Redknapp has risked the wrath of Newcastle United by suggesting Demba Ba has a buy-out clause in his contract.
The Tottenham Hotspur manager is not thought to be interested in 15-goal Ba, who leaves for the African Cup of Nations this weekend.
However, Redknapp has repeated his unfortunate habit of expressing his admiration for players linked with his clubs.
The Magpies are refusing to comment on the existence of any clause in the deal which took Ba to St James’ Park on a free transfer.
With 24 days’ trading left, they do not want to attract interest in a player few were prepared to gamble on last year but whose goals made him the Premier League player of the month for December.
Redknapp said: “Demba Ba hs done great hasn’t he, everybody is looking at him suddenly.
“Anybody could have had him a year ago. Full credit to Alan Pardew, he took him.
“He is probably the most in-form striker anywhere at the moment.
“They say there is a release clause in his contract, that is what we all hear.
“It will be interesting to see what happens there, but at the moment he is doing great things for Newcastle.”
