GOOD communication is the key to a successful left-wing partnership, according to Jonás Gutiérrez.
The Argentinian has been a key player for Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United side with a number of impressive performances as United have climbed into the top six.
However, Gutiérrez is very appreciative of the man who has his back – just as thankful as Ryan Taylor (pictured right) is that Gutiérrez has his.
The duo have formed a special bond on the left flank which has served Newcastle well.
Gutiérrez had a similar relationship with José Enríque but, when the latter departed for Liverpool, there were those who wondered if Taylor would fill his shoes.
That he has done – more remarkable considering he is a right-footer playing at left-back – but Gutiérrez is not surprised the combination has worked thanks to the duo constantly keeping the other informed.
He said: “Normally when you play as a wide player you have to help in attack.
“It was different last year because we had Jose Enrique who likes to push forward from the back.
“Now we have Ryan Taylor there who is a right-back in a different position.
“I want to help him as much as I can so if we have a good understanding then it is better (for the team) if we are fresh enough to go forward when we need to. “It is good for me (to double up at left-back) because when the (opposing) right-winger has the ball we have two players to cover him.
“It is more easy for Ryan and for me as well. We have to talk a lot. We try for all the game to do this, so you have to cover more distance.
