Ryan Taylor expects to be on bench

RYAN Taylor has admitted he can have no complaints if he is back on the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon - despite his impressive display in the Carling Cup win over Accrington Stanley in midweek.
Taylor scored a wonderful long-range strike to help ease United into the third round of that competition, but he accepts he is seen as cover for the first team rather than first choice.
The versatility of the former Wigan Athletic player is a big bonus for Hughton, who knows he is going to be hit by injuries and suspensions at some point over the course of a difficult campaign. However, it might be something of a hindrance in Taylor’s attempt to force his way into the starting line-up on a regular basis.
He said: “I would love to cement a first-team place down, but it is tough at the moment.
“It is not a nice time for me, but I have to make a name for myself.
“I have a reputation as Mr Versatile and I suppose if I go through my career with that it is not the worst thing in the world, but at the same time I want to establish myself in one position.
“My favourite is right back, but I don’t mind playing anywhere.
“I will probably play more games there than anywhere else, and I hope the goal against Accrington Stanley will do me no harm. When the team sheet goes up at Wolves I cannot really be disappointed if I am not starting because the lads won the last game 6-0, so if anyone was dropped from that starting 11 I am sure they would be unhappy.
“When my chance comes I have to do the same sort of thing as I did at Accrington.
“I came on when it was 4-0 against Villa.
“Three points in the Premier League, it does not matter who the opposition is, are massive.”
Taylor also revealed how his wonder goal in midweek almost led to a bit of trouble for his dad.
He explained: “My dad Darren was sat behind the goal where I scored. I nearly hit him!
“I think he jumped up when I scored, but then quickly sat down when he realised where he was.”
