Kevin Nolan sings his team-mate’s praises

“He’s been fantastic. He’s a great lad, he’s walked right into the changing room and got on with everyone. They’re the type of characters we want.

“I was disappointed for him, but I’ve had it and we’ve all had it as players. We’ve just got to get on with it. He’ll bounce back and score goals, we know that. I’m sure they’ll soon be singing his name again.

“At this moment in time he’s still getting to know us. That was probably only his second or third start for us and it does take time.

“It’s a massive club to come to and produce big performances and score goals for, but he’s well up for the challenge and in the end he’ll come out with flying colours.”

Nolan also admitted Newcastle had been a little fortunate to beat Doncaster after his injury-time winner had secured an unexpected three points for the Magpies.

He added: “I think anyone who comes here will make things difficult for us. We’ve missed glorious opportunities. But in the end we’ve got out of jail.

“I think the fans have been absolutely fantastic with how patient they’ve been with us. They’ve backed us all through the game, even when we were 1-0 down.”
