Ryan Taylor: We need to hit back

“We are probably glad to have another game so soon after the Forest one because it means we do not have to dwell on it.

“We are going to go there to try and build on the performance in the second half. It is not a place to go with egos or anything like that. We know we are in a dogfight week in week out. Our job is to win those fights and take Newcastle back into the Premier League.”

Although Taylor suggested a draw would have been a fair result against Forest he conceded the team would have to play considerably better if they are going to bet promoted. He added: “We knew what to expect from Forest, but we did not deal with it well enough.

“We knew it was going to be lively from the first minute. We rode the storm, but never got hold of the game.

“A draw might have been a fair result, but we did not manage a goal in the second half and it was a massive disappointment from which we need to bounce back.

“There was a lot of frustration in the performance. We were doing silly things like trying to shoot from 40 yards and we never do that sort of thing normally. It was one of those days.

“You could see from the reaction at the end of the game how much it meant to Nottingham Forest and that is what this league is like for us. It will be exactly the same against Scunthorpe.

“We have seen in recent weeks every team is capable of taking points off you and we have to make sure we come out of this little dip.”
