Wise hints Ashley is here until promotion

DENNIS Wise has dropped the heaviest hint yet that Mike Ashley could be willing to hold on to Newcastle United until the club are promoted back to the Premier League.

Despite being public enemy number one on Tyneside, Wise has been unable to keep his mouth shut as he tried to defend his role in the signing of Ignacio Gonzalez which led to Keegan’s decision to quit last September and subsequently his successful case for constructive dismissal.

He said of the deal with Gonzalez’s agent: “Long term the idea was we would get first option on the best young South American kids and that was important to Newcastle United.

“Mike was fine about it. He knew all about it, he is the owner of the football club and it is his money, nobody elses. It was all done the right way. It isn’t always how it is portrayed, it was all done properly.”
