Shearer: We're set for hell of a battle

Shearer has borrowed from former mentor Sir Bobby Robson in his approach to team spirit, encouraging the team to eat together to form a stronger bond between team-mates.
He will also look to make other subtle changes this week, although he stressed that there is only so much he can do in such a short space of time.
“We have changed one or two things. We can’t address everything because we’re only here for seven weeks,” Shearer said.
“When Bobby came in to Newcastle, he made everyone sit down and eat together. It’s just a small thing, but I think it gets the players together as a team.”
Even if he was not able to inspire an immediate upturn in fortunes, Shearer’s impact behind the scenes has been
overwhelmingly positive. Veteran midfielder Nicky Butt, who was encouraged by United’s performance against “one of the best teams in Europe” in Chelsea, has spoken of the lift that Shearer’s arrival has given the team.
“Alan is one of those men who has charisma and an aura about him,” Butt revealed.
“He demands respect and he gets that the minute he walks in the changing room. The players are happy he’s here and it’s been an enjoyable start.
“He’s been very upbeat and the whole town is on a high. Hopefully now he can help get us out of the trouble we’re in. I’m confident that together we can.”
José Enríque also believes that confidence is improving under United’s new caretaker boss.
“When he came in the first day, he was very good. We have confidence now, and we think with him in charge we can win games,” the Spaniard said.
Meanwhile, the club are holding an open training session today as they look to maintain the enthusiasm generated by Shearer’s arrival. St James’s Park’s gates open at 11.30am, with access to the North, East and South Stands.
