Ashley must back up his transfer talk with actions

Just speculation?

THE Journal takes a look at the state of play on Newcastle United’s 2009 transfer targets:

John Arne Riise – Staying at Roma and not interested in a move.

Michael Kightly – Wolves do not want to sell and unlikely to push for transfer.

Joe Ledley – Has said he wants to stay at Cardiff and club also reluctant to lose him.

Barry Ferguson – Interest has cooled on the Scotland captain (pictured right) according to Kinnear.

Madjid Bougherra – No bid but interest remains in full-back.

Denilson – First-team commitments at Arsenal rule out a loan move.

Christopher Samba – A key part of Sam Allardyce’s plans at Blackburn.

Stephen Warnock – Unlikely to leave Blackburn for the money Newcastle are able to pay.

David Obua – Hearts’ left-back is still a possibility but club do not want to sell.

Lucas Mareque – Initial interest in Independiente full-back has not been followed up.

Jose Manuel Flores Moreno – Sources in Spain suggest defender is new Magpie target.
