NUFC new boy Papiss Cisse strikes right note

PAPISS Cissé is in line for his Newcastle United debut tomorrow – but the £7.5m Senegalese striker took minutes to have an impact on his new club.

The 26-year-old joined in training for the first time yesterday as the Magpies prepared for tomorrow’s televised visit of Aston Villa.

When he makes his debut Cissé will be the centre of attention.

The same was true at Darsley Park, where he had an inspirational effect on his new team-mates after arriving with Demba Ba from the African Cup of Nations.

Manager Alan Pardew said: “On the training ground you could tell there was a different atmosphere.

“When you have two really good players back everybody wants to show their quality. It was a nice atmosphere.

“The mood on the training ground was one of expectation. You could see a few of our players having a close look.

“Some of them did a light session and stuck around for a nosey. I think he impressed one or two.

“I was not a great player but I was fortunate enough to play with two great players in Crystal Palace’s Mark Bright and Ian Wright and when they were fit you were confident you could win a game anywhere.”

While his strike partner for club and country is happy dropping off, Cissé (pictured left) is a more traditional targetman.

Pardew added: “He will be direct and single-minded about goalscoring.

“In training he has shown that already. He takes shots early, his hold-up play is good and he is an all-round good player.

“Even this window I did not think we would get him over the line, if I am honest. We were focusing on the summer and making sure we got the right striker, but we heard a rumour his club (Freiburg) would do a deal if the money was right, which we did.
