ALAN Pardew hailed Papiss Demba Cisse’s brilliant Newcastle United debut as “Boy’s Own stuff”.
And he promised that there is much more to come from the Magpies’ all-Senegalese strike-force during the second half of the season.
Cisse marked his Newcastle bow with a superb debut goal in front of the rapturous Gallowgate, sending a sizzling left-footed shot past former favourite Shay Given to settle an absorbing contest at St James’ Park.
His compatriot Ba had opened the scoring with his 16th goal of the season before Robbie Keane’s smart leveller for Aston Villa on the stroke of half-time threatened to ruin the return of Newcastle’s deadly striking duo.
But Cisse’s intervention was the perfect way for the forward to introduce himself to the Tyneside public after replacing the injured Leon Best on 14 minutes.
“If you are going to wear that jersey at Newcastle, you need a good start, and he has had that,” an ecstatic Pardew said of the 26-year-old striker.
“It was Boy’s Own stuff, that goal, but his all-round performance, any Newcastle fan would have been nudging their mates and saying, ‘We have got a good ‘un here, he looks all right’.
“I just think he’s the right age for that jersey, he’s got Bundesliga experience.
“This is a good player and he showed that in his first moments – his first touch was a turn. He looked a threat, but his goal was something special and lifted the roof off the place. It really was a great hit.”
Although Pardew was full of praise for Cissé, he was careful to emphasise that there will be more to come from Ba and Cissé as a partnership.
And in a chilling warning for the rest of the division, he also claimed Cissé could be more prolific than Ba.
He said: “He’s got a better record than Demba in the Bundesliga. This is a guy who is at a good age.
