THE TERRIERS had their tail tweaked by Blagdon Park, and now it’s all to play for in the Northumberland League with Bedlington’s lead over Blue Flames down to just a single point.
Dave Gibson was the all-round star for the Park, hitting 45 as his team notched up 208-7 in their 50 overs, and then picking up four wickets for just 35 runs as Bedlington were bowled out for 173.
Gibson’s willing accomplices came in the shape of Russell Hughes (11 fours in 51) and Ali Clark (4-43) as the Terriers tottered.
Meanwhile, Blue Flames were successfully avoiding a potential banana skin at Bates Cottages to set up a titanic Bank Holiday clash with Bedlington.
Faayaz Ahmed (3-36 and 51no) and Steve Pennington (77) provided the spark for the Flames as they restricted their hosts to 196-9, then knocked off the runs with six wickets spare.
The defeat kept the Cottagers too close to the relegation zone for comfort, and their concerns heightened when bottom club Clara Vale turned in a great display to win at Tillside by 57 runs.
Zayn Ahmed (68) and Roly Ahmed (52) lifted the Vale to 246, and then Marc Little loomed large with 4-41 as Tillside toppled for 189.
Stocksfield eased their concerns with an eight-wicket thumping of Corbridge, Ali Thirlwell bagging a superb 7-26 to set up a crucial 30-point victory that looks likely to ensure his team’s Premier Division future.
In the best of the rest, Ben Oliver (5-51 and 68) was in stunning form for Alnmouth in their six-wicket win over Bomarsund, while Keith Puddephatt launched Warkworth to victory over Berwick with a bruising 83 that included 15 fours and a six.
