WOMEN came out on top at the Glendale Agricultural Society’s annual stockjudging competition, which attracted more than 70 competitors.
Anne Fox, from Elsdonburn Farm near Kirknewton, was the overall winner and also scooped the ladies’ section, while Rebecca Armstrong took the novelty class for guessing the weight of four cows.
The event was held at Wrangham East Farm, just north of Wooler, where the Murray family have more than 100 cattle and a flock of pedigree Texel sheep.
The Murrays provided home-bred stock for the event, where classes included Texel shearling tups, a class of Texel Gimmers and a class of Texel ewe lambs. There were also store cattle classes including Charolais heifers, cows and calves and Limousin cows with calves.
Glendale Show secretary Rachael Smith said: “Once again we had a fantastic turnout and had a great deal of fun with many generations of the same family competing against each other.
“This event has now become one of the foremost stock judging platforms in Northumberland and is an important way of making sure that these skills are maintained. It was great to see Anne who is a keen supporter of the society winning both the Leading Lady and being judged overall winner.
“On behalf of the society, I would especially like to thank the Murrays for hosting the stockjudging. The farm was absolutely immaculate and it was more than evident that a huge amount of time and effort and been put in to showcase the fantastic line up of livestock.”
