Glendale Community Middle school gets top marks
WITH a great Ofsted report, excellent exam results and lots of activities, Glendale Community Middle is a school with plenty to celebrate.
Parents, teachers and pupils are in good spirits after the summer term proved their hard work is paying off.
And to cap it all off, a good Ofsted report officially proved the Wooler school is on the up.
Inspectors reported that “Glendale was a good school which has improved since the last inspection”. Every area of the school was rated at least good with a number of outstanding grades, including pupil behaviour, safeguarding of children, pupils feeling safe, promotion of equal opportunity, partnerships in promoting learning and wellbeing and the extent to which pupils adopt healthy lifestyles.
Teaching was seen to be consistently good and better, with a good curriculum enhanced by a wide range of activities.
They also said that pupils make the best of the opportunities the school offers them. Achievement is good and attainment when pupils leave the school is above average.
Headteacher Ruth Bull was also pleased parents echoed the inspectors’ sentiments, saying that one wrote in to say, “I have nothing but praise for this school and am very pleased with my child's progress”.
She said: “We are absolutely delighted that the inspectors recognised all the hard work, by pupils and staff, that has taken place over the last few years. We are particularly pleased that pupils are happy at school and making good progress and parental support is so strong.”
In recent SATs, 97% of pupils gained level four and above in mathematics and 86% did in English.
After all the hard work, pupils were able to enjoy an activity week which included 36 different choices including beach study, felt making, a trip to York, raft building and samba drumming.
