Man arrested in New Hartley after Chatton fisheries theft probe

A MAN has been arrested in connection with a £20,000 burglary at a Northumberland fishery.

The 52-year-old was arrested at premises in the New Hartley area of Northumberland in connection with the burglary at Chatton trout fisheries in December.

Thieves broke into the lodge building on the site on December 15 and stole more than 25 specialist fishing rods, a large quantity of clothing, fishing equipment bags, boxes of fishing flies and fishing lines.

On Wednesday, police from Berwick executed a search warrant in New Hartley and the man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Officers seized fishing equipment suspected of having been stolen in the Chatton burglary.

The man has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Berwick Acting Insp Sharon Wilmore-Greaves said: “We gathered intelligence about where we thought the stolen property was being kept. Officers from Berwick linked in with the neighbourhood team in Cramlington and executed the search warrant.

“In total we believe we may have recovered around three quarters of the stolen property. Further enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”

Anyone with any further information is asked to call police on 101 ext 69191.
