Ponteland left shell-shocked after defeat

PONTELAND United’s dressing room was left shell-shocked after going down 5-0 at Blyth Town in the Northern Alliance Premier Division..

Danny Beresford hit the opener in the 43rd minute and Jeff Fuller doubled the lead in the 52nd. Debutant Dean Sitch made it 3-0 and United piled the woe on themselves with an own goal in the 80th.

Beresford capped off a fabulous Blyth performance with the fifth in the 89th minute.

Stuart Kilgour struck twice for leaders Carlisle City in a 4-1 win over bottom side Stocksfield.

The battling Griffins, who are seeking a new manager, actually opened the scoring on the half-hour through a Wayne Stewart penalty.

Ian Grainger volleyed in the leveller two minutes later and Kilgour put City ahead a minute before the interval. He added his second in the 51st minute and Andy Rogerson completed the scoring in the 73rd.

Harraby have also got off to a storming start and recorded their third win at Walker Central. David Fisher hit the opener in the 55th minute and pounced to add his second in the 90th as Central pushed forward looking for a leveller.

Shankhouse’s Jordan Walsh hit the only goal in the 80th minute against Hebburn Reyrolle and Ashington Colliers netted a last-gasp winner against Whitley Bay A, Steven Slaughter’s shot crashing in off the underside of the bar.

Heaton Stannington’s Dean Holmes was all smiles after netting four times at Percy Main, Gary Dixon netting the other in a storming 5-2 win.

Malcolm Morien fired in a penalty and Michael Bowman grabbed the other consolation.

Grant Kershaw was another player claiming the match ball after hitting all three for Seaton Delaval Amateurs in their 3-0 win at Gateshead Rutherford.

Anthony Burns scored in the 15th and 70th minutes for Killingworth Sporting as they won 4-1 at Murton.

Carl Begbie and Jack Pinchin got the others with Paul Wintripp netting the consolation.

In Division One, Ryan Aplin shot Newcastle East End ahead at Heddon in the 30th minute and Paul Blakes added a second five minutes later.

John Pearson pulled one back from the spot 60 seconds before the break, but East End held on.
