AMI Storey picked up her third Northumberland County Championship in a cracking final at Arcot Hall.
The 22-year-old Ponteland golfer, who was the youngest to win the title with her first win in 2006, had to pull out all the stops to see off Tynemouth's Kim McKenna 6&4.
The 28 entries faced 36 holes of qualifying played in a gale and cold conditions. Ten of those were juniors who had also entered for the Junior Championship – the Trish Todd Trophy – which was played in conjunction with the Championship.
Nicola Haynes (Gosforth Park Ladies) won that trophy with Kelly McNulty (Whitley Bay) runner-up. When she reached the semi-finals of the main Championship, there was the possibility of Nicola doing the double.
But it wasn't to be with Ami holing a putt on 18 to win 2 up as the weather improved, much to everyone's relief.
In the other semi-final, Sarah Phillips (Gosforth) also went to the 18th against Kim, losing 1 down.
Another innovation saw the Swinburne Trophy played for by juniors with handicaps of 21-plus following the semi-finals, and Emma Allison (Morpeth) took the trophy with clubmate Amber Chapple runner-up.
