North East MEP defends wind power

A NORTH East MEP has launched a passionate defence of wind power.

Fiona Hall said it was time to “dispel the myth that wind energy does not make a significant contribution” to energy supplies. But she added: “To reach the full potential of wind energy we must now move to offshore wind.”

Ms Hall spoke out after the National Grid said wind in the UK generated almost as much electricity as four nuclear power stations. At their peak, wind farms generated 1,860 megawatts, which accounted for 4.7% of total generation.
