Council to ask for feedback from Northumberland residents
Aug 18 2010 By The Journal
NORTHUMBERLAND County Council is looking to recruit more than 1,000 people to provide feedback about decisions that affect local residents.
The people’s panel wants to attract 1,100 residents from across Northumberland to gather the views of local people, and ultimately help to shape the future of council services.
The panel will provide another way for the council to consult with local people and ensure the views of residents are taken into account when key decisions are being made.
Coun Jeff Reid, leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “This panel will help us consult with local people and find out what they think about the key issues affecting their lives. Local authorities right across the country are facing up to same major challenges and Northumberland is no different, so it’s vital we understand how residents are feeling.
“The feedback from this panel will help inform some of the big decisions we are going to have to make about the council’s services and direction.”
Volunteers who join the group will be consulted on local issues by post or telephone, usually around four times a year.
They are currently being chosen at random from the Northumberland population and contacted by telephone.
