Robinson and Cowell founder dies aged 86

JOHN ROBINSON, who founded the Robinson and Cowell electrical goods empire in Hexham, has died at the age of 86.

The Newbiggin-born businessman was also a major figure in the establishment of Tynedale Chamber of Commerce and a Rotarian.

Mr Robinson retired from the family business aged 80 in 2005, after branches were opened in Consett and Darlington.

He leaves two sons, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
