PARISHIONERS at a historic Northumberland seaside church are preparing for the biggest event in its calendar.
St Bartholomew’s Church in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea will stage its annual summer fair over the Bank Holiday weekend, and volunteers have arranged a packed programme for locals and visitors to enjoy.
The theme of this year’s flower festival is Northumbria and the displays will be on show in the church on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
On the Saturday, entries can be submitted from 7.30am to 10.30am for the village show, which will be held in the church centre. Judging starts at 11am.
Classes include vegetables, cakes, arts and crafts, flowers, photography and a children’s section, which will be on the theme of the royal wedding. Viewing times for the show will be 1pm to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, when refreshments will be served all day in the centre.
On the Sunday church services include the parish communion at 9.30am and a village Songs of Praise at 6.30pm.On Bank Holiday Monday the fair will be held in the church centre from 11am to 2pm, with a variety of stalls and a sale of produce.
Events draw to a close on Saturday September 3 when a dinner is held at Newbiggin Golf Club. Tickets are available from Bill Sampson on 01670 817440, and the evening will include a grand prize draw.
