CHILDREN from across the region have been taking part in a music festival in Northumberland.
Youngsters from across Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and County Durham have been playing at the 99th Wansbeck Music Festival.
The event takes place in two parts with the first having begun on Thursday and finishing today. Children have been competing in recorder, steel band, woodwind piano and vocal classes at venues in Morpeth.
The second half of the festival takes place from March 31 to April 2 in Newbiggin and Morpeth. It will feature a concert with performances from prizewinners. The festival is run by a committee of volunteers who this year have received funding from Morpeth, Ashington and Newbiggin councils as well as the Community Chest. It was first held in 1906 as an event for school choirs within seven miles of the River Wansbeck, and has taken place every year since, apart from during the Second World War.
