Football: Lacklustre Morpeth Baptist Church feel power of St Peters striker

AFTER putting in their worst performance of the season Morpeth Baptist Church were roundly and deservedly beaten by a strong and physical Saint Peter's team.

It was a lacklustre start from the home team and Saint Peter's were on top in every aspect of the game.

The home team conceded two poorly defended, almost carbon copy, goals as the tall Saint Peter's centre forward, firstly from a corner and then from open play, nodded in crosses at the far post.

After half-time Morpeth Baptist Church sought to come back more strongly but were knocked by conceding further goals. The centre forward completed his hat-trick after further slack defending, a great shot from the away team's No 8 was curled from the edge of the area into the top corner and the other lively centre forward then slid in to score the fifth as MBC heads dropped. There was a consolation goal for the home team when good work by Johnson from a throw-in on the right saw him play the ball across the six-yard area where it was coolly slotted in by Garbutt. MBC played much better in the last 20 minutes but it was too little too late.
