A MAN will appear in court later this month after being charged with the manslaughter of his brother after an incident in Northumberland.
Michael Marshall, 52, was pronounced dead in Wansbeck General Hospital on August 23 this year, two hours after he was assaulted during an altercation in Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade shopping centre.
Yesterday Northumbria Police said that Anthony Marshall, 50, of Broome Road, Carrville in Durham has been charged with his manslaughter.
Anthony Marshall – understood to be the dead man’s brother – is due to appear before south east Northumberland magistrates in Bedlington on Monday, December 19.
Michael Marshall, who lived alone in a bungalow in Stobhill, Morpeth, was known locally as Little Elvis because of his passion for karaoke singing in pubs and clubs.
On the day of his death he had gone to the shopping arcade at about 3pm, and was assaulted and left unconscious after getting involved in a verbal altercation with a man.
He was given first aid at the scene and taken to Wansbeck General in Ashington where he died at 5.42pm.
A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter at the time, but later released without charge.
Mr Marshall used to work as a window cleaner and was a former committee member at Morpeth Comrades Club.
He was well known as an Elvis Presley devotee and regularly took part in karaoke sessions at local pubs and on Tyneside.
