A DRIVER had to be cut from a car wreck in Northumberland after suffering serious injuries.
The man, aged 47, was trapped for more than an hour after the smash on the A1 at Blagdon, near Morpeth.
The air ambulance was called to treat the patient at the scene as he was pulled from 4x4 he had been driving.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) flew the crash victim to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), where he is being treated for chest, abdominal, pelvic and leg injuries.
The air ambulance’s Guardian of the North helicopter was called to the scene around 8pm, last night.
A spokesman for the GNAAS said: “We were called to the crash when it became clear the driver was trapped in the car and would require medical treatment.
“A doctor was among our crew which meant he was able to treat and stabilise the patient at the scene before preparing him for the transfer.
“We were able to fly the driver to hospital in Newcastle in just six minutes.
“The patient was admitted straight into a specialist treatment unit where his injuries were described as severe.
“Our thoughts remained with him after he was delivered into the care of doctors at the RVI.”
