Delight as Novera gives up on Todd Hill wind farm

A WIND farm developer has delighted campaigners in Northumberland by confirming a county project is dead in the water.

Novera Energy, part of the Infinis group, has confirmed it will not be putting a new application forward for the Todd Hill site, having already decided not to appeal against a refusal of its planning proposal.

It emerged last week that the company had not appealed against Northumberland County Council’s decision to refuse its scheme for four 110-metre-high turbines, on a site north of Morpeth, inside the six months in which it had to make a challenge.

But those who had fought the scheme feared the developer might come back with a revised application for the site.

However, in a short statement, Novera’s Stephen Hannay revealed the company had written to the council confirming that it will not be lodging an appeal or submitting a new planning application.

Mr Hannay said: “The company has decided to give priority to two of our other Northumberland wind farm sites at Wingates and Widdrington which offer greater potential.”

The statement was last night welcomed by pressure group Put People First, which was formed to fight the plans.

Chairman Tim Weightman, who lives near Todd Hill with his wife Julia and three children, said: “I am delighted to hear that. I did not realise it was going to be as final as that.”
