Angling: Record catches are talk of the Tyne

LAST Sunday’s EA/TAA Tyne Championships was another classic match which confirmed the Tyne’s status as one of the best and most consistent fishing rivers in the country.

It was a sell-out 100-field entry and a staggering 51 anglers returned double-figure catches, a new record for the venue.

New champion with a fantastic weight of 55lb 12oz was Durham angler Peter Scott.

Pegged at Riding Mill, Scott caught on the four mt whip using maggot landing dace to 12oz, nine roach and nine chub to 3lb.

Runner-up Nick Jose caught dace and chub on the stick float for 40lb 8oz followed by joint third-placed Eddie Bridon with 39lb 12oz, also at Riding Mill, who tied with Graeme Jones pegged at Hexham.

Everyone concerned with the match appreciates all the work which goes into getting this event going.

Thanks go to Steve Hoggins and fellow organiser John Turner.

Also to the TRT for their assistance with recording the catch data of the match on behalf of the EA and the TAA, various clubs and riparian owners for supporting the event, and to the EA – and Robbie Stevenson in particular.

A total of £1,000 was raised for the TRT, including £500 sponsorship from local engineering firm DUCO Ltd, while for the first time the Tyne Anglers Alliance will get £ 300 to help with fish stocks.
