THE Magnificent Seven dubbed Team Emma are putting in intensive training to boost a special BBC-featured fund close to their hearts.

For the family and friends of tragic student Emma Newton are aiming for a five-figure Great North Run target.

Emma, 18, of Lowgate, Hexham, was killed in May when a tree fell on her car in gales near Corbridge.

Emma’s Fund, set up by her family to help young people, like her, making their way in the performing arts, has since raised an amazing £40,000.

“And we hope we can take that over £50,000,” said Emma’s Uncle Simon, 39, one of the seven in the Great North Run. “The BBC featuring us is a great help.”

Simon will run with Emma’s aunt, Emily Baty, cousins Janine and Zoe, and friends Kevin Robson and Amy Sharpe.

Emma’s former school arts tutor, Andrew Turnbull, is doing three half-marathons including the Great North Run and the Kielder Marathon, for Emma’s Fund.

Andrew said: “She was a fantastic girl and all of us on Team Emma are proud to be doing the run for her.”
