A STATIC marathon cycle held over 24 hours at a Hexham supermarket has raised more than £1,000 for the charity Alzheimer’s Appeal.
A team of volunteers cycled the equivalent of 231 miles from midday on Friday to midday on Saturday, raising £1,002.96 from a bucket collection.
The marathon was backed by Alzheimer’s Appeal patron Sir Tom Finney, the former Preston and England idol, through Kendal Town FC, of which Sir Tom is President.
The event was started off by former Sunderland defender Jimmy Shoulder.
